The third Network-wide Event of ETN SOCRATES takes place on from 13 till 16 February 2018 in Bonn, Germany. During the meeting, the recruited Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) and their supervisors, together with representatives of the partner organisations and the project management, will monitor the progress of the research projects of SOCRATES. Additionally, several S/T and soft-skill trainings are offered to the ESRs. All meetings take place in the University of Bonn.
In preparation of the event, on Tuesday 13/02, the ESRs will gather for the Researchers Council. There, they can discuss any issues they would like to bring to the attention of the Supervisory Board.
On Wednesday 14/02, the whole consortium will gather to review the results achieved in the last half year. The ESRs are responsible for presenting an overview of the progress per workpackage and of their individual phd projects. In the evening, all participants are invited for a Valentine dinner.
On Thursday 15/02, the Technical Steering Committee meeting and the Supervisory Board meeting are organised. During the TSC, the work package leaders present a brief overview of the main progress and issues in their WP. The progress of the ESRs is discussed and any suggestions for improvement debated. The TSC takes decisions (by consensus) on S/T matters, with specific attention to the interaction of the WPs. After the TSC, the Supervisory Board meeting takes place and conducts a full evaluation of the project state of the art and cross checks all the project milestones and deliverables. Also, attention is given to the training progress and the dissemination and exploitation.
In parallel, the ESRs receive S/T training ‘Introduction in ab-initio modelling in solvent extraction systems’. In the afternoon, a lecture “On time evolution and predictability: How much sense do Hirsch rankings make?” is offered to all participants. After this lecture on the H-index, a workshop on ‘Supervising students and research integrity‘ is organised. In the evening, an optional visit to the Beethovenhaus will be organised (on personal expenses).
On the last day of the network-wide event, Friday 16/02, the ESRs will receive a training on Umicore R&D’s JAIKUMAR innovation approach as part of the extensive soft-skills training programme of ETN SOCRATES.
