The 2nd Network-wide Event of ETN SOCRATES takes place on from 04 till 07 September 2017 in Pori, Finland. During the meeting, the recruited Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) and their supervisors, together with representatives of the partner organisations and the project management, will monitor the progress of the research projects of SOCRATES. Additionally, plant visits of the Outotec Pilot Factory and the Boliden Copper Electrorefinery are organised. Finally, various S/T and soft-skill trainings are offered to the ESRs. All meetings take place in the Outotec Research Center.
On Monday 04/09, after a short introduction, the ESRs will individually present the first results and the progress they made so far. In the evening, participants continue networking during a social gathering.
On Tuesday 05/09, the Technical Steering Committee meeting and the Supervisory Board meeting are organised. During the TSC, the work package leaders present a brief overview of the main progress and issues in their WP. The progress of the ESRs is discussed and any suggestions for improvement debated. The TSC takes decisions (by consensus) on S/T matters, with specific attention to the interaction of the WPs. After the TSC, the Supervisory Board meeting takes place and conducts a full evaluation of the project state of the art and cross checks all the project milestones and deliverables. Also, attention is given to the training progress and the dissemination and exploitation.
In parallel, the ESRs receive various S/T training on ‘Gold Hydrometallurgy’, the ‘Benefication of secondary raw materials by mineral processing’, ‘Industrial Water Treatment’ and ‘Automated sorting technology for complex waste’. In the afternoon, all participants are invited to visit the Outotec Research Center and receive a short tour around the facilities. In the evening after the TSC/SB meeting and the visit, partners & (co-)supervisors can return home.
On Wednesday 06/09, the ESRs will receive more trainings from various lecturers on different topics, namely on:
- The challenges and opportunities of recovering metals from iron-rich residues from zinc production
- Business development in metallurgical industry
- Role of process modelling in process development
- Managing Industrial Delivery Project
- Development of hydrometallurgical process equipments: scaling up from lab scale to industrial scale
On Thursday 07/09, a plant visit to the nearby Outotec Pilot Factory and Boliden Copper Electrorefinery is scheduled.
